The Route:

There are many routes that you are able to walk whilst visiting Scroggs Wood. On this occasion we parked at the top of Scroggs Lane, postcode LA9 5RL, and walked the very short distance, down the lane, until we joined the woodland path (image 1). Please note there is further (limited) layby parking at the bottom of Scroggs Lane for those with little legs who don’t want to walk too far. Alternatively, if you are struggling for layby parking, you are able to park on River Bank Road or Bellingham Road where you will find access down to the woodland path.

Route 1, Scroggs Lane to the steps near Bellingham Road access: this 1 mile, out and back route, is off road pram accessible and a lovely walk for those with little legs. The route walks through wide woodland paths, close to the River Kent. There are plenty of opportunities to skim stones down by the river. Please do be careful of your little ones when close to the water. Having reached the steps close to the Bellingham Road access (image 2), retrace your steps and return the way that you came.

Route 2, Scroggs Lane to Ford Terrace and back: this 3 mile walk is a wonderful woodland, and riverside, walk. Please be aware that this path can become quite overgrown at times, long sleeves, and trousers, are strongly recommended. That being said the path offers great excitement for children as it really does feel as though you are on a great adventure through the trees and bushes! You are able to walk as far, or as little, as you would like retracing your steps when you are ready to return to the car.
