Healthy Families Cumbria Pledge
The Hiking Household have developed a series of 6 delightful nature trail maps to help parents and their children to enjoy our local green spaces across Cumbria. The maps, aimed at pre-school aged children and their parents, have been produced in partnership with The Cumbria County Council Early Years Team as part of their Healthy Families Pledge, with funding from The Covid Restart and Recovery Fund.
Each nature trail is easy to access, with regular bus routes available. They are all pram accessible and are short in length – perfect for little legs.
The maps are free to download and are packed with prompts and games to help spark the imagination, start curious conversations and engage children with their surroundings – all while having fun!
The maps have been carefully designed to help improve language skills as well as other key learning points for pre-school children such as counting and learning their shapes and colours.

Ramblers Wellbeing Walks
The Hiking Household are also excited to announce that throughout March and April 2023 we will be leading a series of free Ramblers Wellbeing Walks around Chances Park, Carlisle and Thacka Beck Nature Reserve, Penrith. These will give families the opportunity to enjoy the nature trails together, the walks will be slow paced and pram accessible. Hardcopies of the map will be available on arrival. Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival

The Hiking Household secured funding through The National Lottery Heritage Fund UK and Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival Community Grants to develop an online map for the HW1900 festival. The Map was of Walltown Country Park and helped families enjoy time outside together while learning more about our local heritage. Please click here to learn more and to download the map.
