Why we love this walk?
This walk is perfect for those with children who are ready for a fell walk but you want to test their walking before committing to a Wainwright walk. It is also a perfect walk if you are short of time, or if the weather is not on your side – the trees shelter much of the wind and rain.
Please do take care, correct walking footwear is essential.

The Route.
The Cockshot & Castlehead Wood Walk is a quick and easy adventure in the heart of Keswick. The route takes you through the forest and then up towards the summit showing stunning views of Derwentwater. It is a popular route for families and beginner walkers in the Lake District due to its easy to navigate trails and peaceful woodland setting.
The trail sets out from Keswick, we began at the car park next to the Theatre by the Lake. From here, we walked towards Derwentwater taking a left into the woods. Here we walked through Cockshot Wood, crossing (carefully) at Borrowdale Road and into Castlehead Wood. Here we ascended up to the summit showing beautiful views of Derwentwater and the surrounding fells. After a quick rest at the top, we descended the way that we came.
This walk is perfect for a quick and fun weekend excursion. You can include this walk in many of our Keswick adventures.
