South Lakeside Railway & Lakes Aquarium

For any families wondering where to head for a great family day out then this is your place! It really is such a lovely little day trip.

There is a pay & display car park within walking distance to the South Lakeside railway platform and Lakes Aquarium – postcode LA12 8AS.

The steam train provided great excitement for all the children. The train journey to Haverthwaite is approximately 20 minutes, there is a fantastic cafe and play park at Haverthwaite. We abandoned our pushchair and walked to the view point which is a lovely, short woodland walk. It could easily be extended towards the public footpath once you reach the summit if you wanted a longer walk.

We spent just over an hour here playing on the park before heading back on the train to Lakes Aquarium.

Both the railway and the aquarium were a huge hit for all of my children. A fabulous day out, and could easily be linked with plenty of walks close to this area if you wanted to extend your day!
