Mirehouse

Mirehouse & Gardens is situated by Bassenthwaite Lake and the natural playgrounds here are fantastic!! There is a pay & display car park in Dodd Wood, across the road from the entrance to Mirehouse. There is also a lovely little cafe here and toilet facilities.

Please note there is an admission price to visit Mirehouse. However, due to having to pay a small entry fee to the gardens (under 4’s are free) it often means that Mirehouse doesn’t get as busy – making it a perfect place to explore during the school holidays. If you’re like me and you have a few children to keep your eyes on then you will know the importance of finding places that are fun, cheap and not too busy during the school holidays! You need eyes in the back of your head with children.

The gardens here are wonderful! They are not only beautiful, but also provide a fantastic natural playground for the children explore, climb and have fun in. There are multiple trails that you can choose from, we picked the 3 mile lakeside loop that is pram accessible – some sections are rocky so we used the all terrain pram. This walk takes you alongside Bassenthwaite Lake, here we stopped for a picnic and a play in the water – it was so quiet!

Overall, a fantastic day out in the great outdoors allowing the children to really explore and play in their natural habitat.
