Longtown Town Centre

Distance

2 miles

Why we love this walk

A lovely walk with fantastic views of Longtown and the surrounding areas, starting and ending in the town of Longtown

This 2 mile circular route is a great opportunity to explore more of Longtown. There are some wonderful views as well as a play area for little ones to enjoy, a bmx track and a library to visit on route.

Please note: the beginning section of this walk can get muddy at times (photo 1) and could be difficult with a pram when wet. The rest of the walk is pram accessible all year round on a mixture of pavements, roadside walking and tarmac paths.

Parking

We used free, off road parking on Lovers Lane. Postcode: CA6 5UW.

The Route:

Starting on Lovers Lane head away from the town centre and down the off-road track ahead of you, please be aware this path can get boggy at times. Here you will find a bmx track on your left hand side, perfect for children of all ages to enjoy.

When you reach the end of this track head left onto Netherby Rd and take the first right onto The Scaur. Here you take a small tarmac path down towards the riverside (photo 2). This path runs alongside the River Esk, underneath the bridge and quickly reaches the children’s play area (photo 3).

From here head towards the High Street, taking in the many historic buildings on the wide streets. When you reach Longtown Community Centre, a great hub of the town, take a left onto Albert St and navigate back towards Swan Street. It is here where you will find a lovely library, perfect for little ones to enjoy. Continue along Swan St/ Mary St, taking a left onto Stackbraes Road, before returning to the start of your walk.

This short, easy walk is a lovely chance to explore more of what Longtown has to offer, while learning some history along the way. Don’t forget to scroll down and view our Strava map for the full route.
