Longtown Countryside Walk

Distance

2 miles

Why we love this walk

A lovely walk with fantastic views of Longtown and the surrounding areas, starting and ending in the town of Longtown

This 2 mile circular route is a great opportunity to explore more of Longtown’s countryside. There are some wonderful views as well as a play area for children to enjoy towards the end of the walk.

Please note: this walk is not pram accessible; following a public footpath through country fields, passing sheep, crossing streams and climbing over stiles. The terrain is a mixture of woodland paths, fields, roadside walking and tarmac paths.

Parking

We used free, off road parking on Lovers Lane. Postcode: CA6 5UW. You could also begin this walk from Longtown Community Centre, postcode: CA6 5SJ.

The Route:

Starting on Lovers Lane head towards Moor Rd, here you will soon see a woodland area on your left hand side (photo 1). Follow this woodland track for a short while until you see the public footpath over the road, on your right hand side. Cross the road, please be very careful of any passing traffic, and over the style onto the public footpath (photo 2).

You are now on the countryside path, pass through the fields – keeping to the public footpath. Please be careful here as there are some stiles to cross and the terrain can get wet and boggy (photo 3).

You will soon see the end of the field path, marked by a stile with a public footpath signpost. Climb over this stile and you are now onto the last stretch of countryside road walking. As you reach a more built up area you will see a small path on your right hand side leading to the children’s play area. Head towards the park, letting any little ones enjoy a play, before heading onto Swan Street/Mary Street.

It is here where you will find a lovely library, perfect for little ones to enjoy. Continue along Mary St, taking a left onto Stackbraes Road, before returning to the start of your walk.

You are also able to begin this walk at Longtown Community Centre. There are regular buses into Longtown for those who don’t wish to bring a car.
