What better way to spend our Sunday than hitting Wainwright number four for the children!
Ling Fell is approximately a 3 mile walk, it is shaped like a wide dome and poses no particular dangers/cliff edges which makes it another fantastic walk for little legs! It is next to Sale fell which I previously reviewed and many walkers do both fells in one day.
There is lay-by parking at Brumston Bridge, just near to Wythop Mill. From here it is a short walk on a quiet road over the bridge and up the hill, you take a right at the junction and on the left there is a gate – here you begin the fell path up to the summit. It is easily found and easy to navigate. If you are only planning on walking over Ling Fell and don’t fancy the steepish walk up the road there are a couple of pull-ins available just a little further along the lane closer to the open fell side path.

I personally found Sale Fell more enjoyable for my children as the paths are wider so they are able to run and skid down (their favourite game) much easier! That being said this was a lovely walk that the children managed well. I had our baby in the carrier and my two year old reaped the benefits of having her Daddy home and spent most of the time in the backpack! I am more than certain she could have walked it all though as it is no harder than Sale Fell!
