Friars Crag, Keswick

This two mile walk is a relatively level route and makes a wonderful pram friendly walk. There is pay & display parking available at the Theatre By The Lake, the postcode is CA12 5DJ. The route that we took was approximately 2 miles long which can be found on the strava map at the bottom of this page.

Follow the road from the theatre down to Derwentwater. When the tarmac ends, continue on the stone track and carry on to the viewpoint of Friar’s Crag.

Having admired the view at Friars Crag return to the path junction. You will see two paths leading off to your right, the lower one goes along the shore at Strandshag Bay. We took this path on the way there and it was slightly tricky with the pram as it can be uneven in places.

The upper left path, which we took on our return journey, is far more accessible and goes through a field with views over the lake before gently dropping to join the other path near the lake shore. A bridge and kissing gate take you into a small wood with a great boardwalk for the pram. Retrace your route back.

There are plenty of other paths you could take to make this walk longer, or shorter, depending on your needs. At the end of the route we took, you could turn right into Cockshott Wood and return to the car park this way if you wanted.

Friars Crag is a great walk for those needing wheelchair access as you are able to walk/push from the Theatre By The Lake to Friars Crag viewpoint with ease, without needed to complete the full walk.
