Finglandrigg Wood is a National Nature Reserve approximately 8 miles outside of Carlisle between Kirkbampton and Kirkbride. There is lay-by parking on the B5307 at the entrance to the woods. If using Sat Nav to find this walk I would recommend typing ‘Finglandrigg Wood’ into Google Maps prior to setting off, the closest postcode for this walk is a few miles out. Please see the Strava map below for exact whereabouts.

There are signposts from the roadside to highlight the start of this walk, and clear markings throughout your walk to direct you on your route. There are two routes at Finglandrigg Wood that you could take: the blue route which is slightly shorter at 1.2 miles or the red route which is 1.8 miles. This is the route that we did today – I managed with my pram although it was slightly boggy at times!

This walk is PERFECT for little legs, there is so much to see – they can climb trees, see horses, cows… maybe even a bull! There is a small stream and so much wildlife! Beware there are even adders in one section of the grassland – we are yet to see one but it is always great excitement for the kids to keep watch! Thanks to the spectacular trees this walk is also a great one for when the weather isn’t great!
