Bamburgh to Seahouses Walk (one way)

Please note this walk was completed by Alex, her husband and their little girl.

Distance

Approx 4 miles, one way.

We did this walk with our toddler in a hiking backpack but she had a good stretch of walking on the beach. Moving time on Strava was 1hr 40 mins but it actually took us well over two hours, including stops for sandcastles and snacks! This distance is one way – we hopped on a bus to get back to Bamburgh.

Wellies recommended.

Why we love this walk

Bamburgh is a very charming village and a lovely place to start the walk – the castle is really something to behold! There’s a good playground where the kids can let their imaginations run wild captaining their own pirate ship.

The beach itself offers beautiful golden sands and lots of opportunity for play along the way. With this route being fairly long and linear, I’d definitely recommend playing lots of games to keep the little ones motivated and moving.

Parking

The Route:

This is such an easy walk to navigate! Start on the cricket green, just below Bamburgh castle. Follow the path around the outside of the green, heading for the back right hand corner, where you’ll find a path that leads through the dunes down to the beach. Once on the beach, bear right, passing the castle. From here it’s a straight line along the coast. Just after you see the first few houses at Seahouses, take the steps up from the beach and make your way into town for an ice cream!

As you’d expect, the route is pretty much all sand but there’s a small section of rocks – we didn’t have any issues but just keep an eye out for any slippery bits.

You can return the same way – but we took the bus back from King Street. A word of warning – it arrived about 5 minutes earlier than the timetable stated, and didn’t wait, so I’d recommend arriving at the bus stop in good time.
