Allen Banks National Trust, Morralee Tarn Route

Last week we visited Allen Banks for the first time and what a wonderful find it was! Allen Banks and Staward Gorge can be found near Ridley Hall, Bardon Mill – postcode NE47 7BP. As it is a National Trust site there is a pay & display car park at the beginning of the walk. There are several routes that you are able to take from here, some longer than others. We opted for the 2.5 mile circular route to Morralee Tarn – I would highly recommend this walk for little ones as the tarn is a great half way point to stop, have a snack and search for frogs on the many lily pads! The walk itself isn’t too strenuous, our three year old Heidi managed the full walk with minimal complaining which is quite an achievement for anyone who knows her.

Overall this is great place, not too far from Carlisle, for a lovely summer day trip with the children. There are plenty of places to stop for picnics and with its deep gorge and natural woodland it really does provide a fantastic setting for an adventure.
