Talkin Fell

Distance

4.2-4.4 miles

Why we love this route

Talkin fell is such a wonderful walk especially for slightly older children, it really gave my children a sense of achievement! They were so proud of themselves when they had completed it! I was amazed that my three year old made it up – the view from the top of this walk is beautiful.

It is, of course, NOT pram friendly – baby carriers are essential! The route is approximately 4.2 miles with steep gradients at times.

There are a few stiles to get over and we went anticlockwise round this route. I wouldn’t recommend going this way round as we went a little off track!

To start this walk if you drive from Castle Carrock and follow the Geltsdale Road up the hill to reach the bend in the road at Jockey Shield there is some verge parking available. This is where you can start your walk.

Distance

5.5 mile loop

Pay & Display parking available at Talkin Tarn

Why we love this route

This offers a slightly different way up Talkin Fell and conveniently begins, and ends, at Talkin Tarn. This 5.5 mile loop is quite steep but is fantastic on wet days as most of the climb is on quiet country roads making the terrain much more manageable!
This walk is probably best for older children due to the road walking.
