The Derwentwater Walk

10 miles

There are plenty of parking places in Keswick, for the walk today we parked in Portinscale.

Why we love this walk?

This is an excellent route for those who don’t want to climb a fell, but want all the perks of being in the heart of the Lake District. This relatively flat and easy walk offers breathtaking views of the surrounding fells. The well marked path takes you along the shores of the lake making it perfect for paddling on summer days!

The Route

The Derwentwater Walk is a waymarked path which takes you on a 10 mile walk around Derwentwater. On flat and easy paths, the walk passes through woodlands and along the shores of the lake. This walk really is beautiful with perfect picnic stops, cafés and restaurants en-route, not forgetting the stunning scenery you will see throughout your 10 mile walk.

The real beauty of this walk is that you can do as much, or as little, as you would like. You can join the path at many different points. If you have little legs with you then you could do a short lakeside walk followed by a paddle in the lake. It can also be enjoyed by catching a launch from one of the landing stages.
