Why we love this walk?

Pategill is located in Penrith, walking distance from the town centre.  This walk is perfect for a leisurely stroll. The path down to Thacka Beck Field is flat and wide, perfect for pushchairs or wheelchairs. There are benches scattered along this path making it a perfect place to take a rest and enjoy the scenery. The route is pram accessible with wide, tarmac paths. Please note – there are a few stairs to navigate however, they are wide and easy to manage. Pushchairs would be able to access these stairs, wheelchair users may struggle.  A lovely walk for all ages – with the added bonus of a play area at the beginning/end of the walk!

The Route:

There are many routes that you are able to walk whilst visiting Pategill, the footpaths and pavements are easy to follow. On this occasion we started our walk by the play area, parking just off Prince Charles Close. We enjoyed some time on the beautiful green space here and the playground.  We then followed the path next to the park and navigated down to Carleton Avenue. Here we had a short stretch walking on the pavement alongside the A686. We quickly turned right and down to the entrance of Thacka Beck Fields (image one). Here we walked along the lovely wide path and enjoyed a rest on some of the benches here (image 2). We then made our way back towards the play area through the many different streets of Pategill. You can take any route but if you would like to follow our map then head to our Strava map at the bottom of this page.
