Why we love this walk?

This cycleway can be found in Cleator Moor, walking distance from the high street.  This walk is perfect for a leisurely stroll and the path is flat and wide, perfect for pushchairs or wheelchairs. There are benches scattered along this path making it a perfect place to take a rest and enjoy the scenery, look out for the scupltures along the path which were designed by local school children.

The Route:

There are many routes that you are able to walk whilst walking this cycleway as it runs from Whitehaven to Sunderland. On this occasion we started our walk from Phoenix Bridge (image 2) in Cleator Moor, parking in the car park by the old railway line from Whitehaven to Ennerdale. This ten mile surfaced cycling route, and footpath, is extremely easy to follow. There are many benches along the path allowing you to rest and enjoy the beautiful view of Ennerdale Valley. We took an out and back route towards Parkside scootering two mile before turning back and retracing our steps. If the weather hadn’t turned on us we would have enjoyed a longer walk along the easy to follow path. Along the route there are a number of metal sculptures designed my local primary school children (image 4).

Don’t forget you are able to take any route along this cycleway, it continues all the way to nearby villages such as Frizington and Rowrah. If you would like to follow our two mile route then head to our Strava map at the bottom of this page.
