October Half Term Ideas!
With October here we are all aware that the children will soon be off school for half term and with the added pressure to ‘do something fun’ sometimes the half term holidays can feel a little overwhelming. Here at The Hiking Household we know only too well how difficult it can be to fill the days with your children so we have listed a few events below that are happening this October in Cumbria!

Monday 24th October 2022:
– Currock Community Centre Halloween Party: Suitable for ages 0-10 years, 5.30pm-7pm, £8.50 per child. Booking essential.
Tuesday 25th October 2022:
– Twilight Tales in Dove Cottage, Wordsworth Grasmere: Listen to spooky stories and enjoy Halloween crafts, suitable for ages 3+. Book via Eventbrite.
– Rocktots Halloween Playgroup Session: Currock Community Centre, 9.30am-11am. £3.50, book via Eventbrite.
Wednesday 26th October 2022:
– Pumpkin Carving @ Allan Bank and Grasmere: Various times for throughout the week, book via Eventbrite. £3 per person.
– Carlisle Cathedral: Make your own gargoyles. 10.30am, £3.
– Currock Community Centre: Creative Play Workshop, two sessions: 2pm-3pm for 0-4 year olds and 3pm-4pm for ages 5+. Book via Eventbrite.
Thursday 27th October 2022:
– Twilight Tales in Dove Cottage, Wordsworth Grasmere: Listen to spooky stories and enjoy Halloween crafts, suitable for ages 3+. Book via Eventbrite.
– Carlisle Cathedral: Make your own gargoyles. 10.30am, £3.
Friday 28th October 2022:

– Oak Tree Animals’ Charity, Blackburn Wood: Fright Night, 6.30pm – 8.30pm. Suitable for ages 12+. Booking required, £10.
– Dens, Daisies and Discoveries Halloween Family Forest School: 10am-12pm, booking required.
– Zoobidoo Halloween Special @ Currock Community Centre. 12-30pm-1.30pm for 2-5 year olds and 1.30pm-2.30pm for ages 6+. Booking essential, £6 per child.
– Allonby Village Hall: Allonby lantern making and walk, 4.30pm-6.30pm. Free, book space via Eventbrite.
Saturday 29th October 2022:
– Morton Manor Family Halloween Party: 12pm-4pm, £5 per ticket. Contact Morton Manor Community Centre on 01228 531105.
– The Old Laundry Theatre: Snow White Spooktacular, 4pm-5.10pm. Suitable for ages 4+. Booking required.
Sunday 30th October 2022:
– Watchtree Nature Reserve Halloween Family Fun Day: 10am-4pm, free entry. Donations welcome.
– Yewdale Community Centre Halloween Party: 2pm-4pm, £6 per ticket. Booking essential.
– Blaithwaite Scare Walk: 4.30pm-10pm, booking required via their website. Not pram accessible. For those with younger children who might not enjoy this Scare Walk Blaithwaite are also doing a Trick & Treats day on the 5th Nov 10am-4pm: marshmallows by the fire, walks, games and stories with Anja from Tale Trails. – Saturday 22nd until Sunday 30th October:
- Muncaster Castle Halloween Festival. Perfect for children, for full information on this notoriously popular festival head to www.muncaster.co.uk
- Carlisle Castle Spooktacular: 10am – 4pm, suitable for all ages, book online here.
- Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway: a week of ghoulish going’s on! Check website for full details.
- Tullie House: Join us for some spooky crafts this October half term. Each craft is a drop-in session 1 – 4pm. No need to book just stop by. See website for full details.
– 20th October until 31st October:
- Brockhole Halloween Special: This often sells out very fast so be quick! For fill information click here.
– Monday 24th until Sunday 30th October:
- Oak Tree Animals’ Charity: A week of spooktacular activities, check their website for a full itinerary.
