Brough Castle

This wonderful castle stands on the site of a Roman fort in the Village of Brough, approximately 30 miles south of the City of Carlisle (postcode CA17 4EJ). There is roadside parking in the village, a very short walk from the entrance to the castle. Please be aware that the entrance of the castle is through a kissing gate that was inaccessible with my pram. Luckily I had the baby carrier for during the exploration of the castle and the remainder of the walk was pram friendly. I left the pram on the other side of the kissing gate and found there to be no issues with this.

This is a great place to visit as a family because it is not just the castle itself that you can explore here. There is so much more to do within the village of Brough and we were able to entertain our children all day! We downloaded a kid friendly map from the Walk Eden website ( www.walkeden.org) that the children had great fun following. It highlighted lots of little things that they could look out for during the short family stroll through Brough Village. We found the school, a church, small little caves, a stream, a mini waterfall and of course their favourite – an ice cream parlour which caused great upset when the children realised it was only open between March and September.

Please be aware that farm livestock are likely to be present.
